Sustainable Development Strategy

WINSTAR remains committed to integrity, excellence in corporate governance, and the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility. We prioritize the implementation of sustainable policies focused on ESG principles and energy conservation and carbon reduction. Over the years, we have continuously dedicated efforts to environmental sustainability, corporate governance, and social responsibility, striving to achieve the goal of sustainable development.


 

■ Environmental Sustainability


In response to the profound impact of global climate change and environmental shifts on human life and business challenges, WINSTAR aligns with international environmental trends and national policy objectives. We prioritize environmental sustainability, fulfill our corporate environmental responsibilities, and strive to adhere to advanced international safety, health, and environmental protection standards to contribute to the sustainability of our planet. Our operational guidelines are as follows:

  • Comply with relevant international and national environmental safety laws and regulations.
  • Implement environmental safety management policies and enhance employee awareness of environmental protection and safety.
  • Strengthen communication within and outside the company to promote environmental safety management systems and policies.
  • Reinforce pollution control, reduce waste during production processes, and minimize environmental impacts.
  • Prevent pollution through continuous improvement, energy conservation, and resource recycling.
  • Improve workplace environments to protect employee safety and health.
  • Put people first, encouraging workers to consult and participate.
According to WINSTAR's policies and implementation guidelines, the current concrete results are as follows:
1. In 2018, a process improvement project was implemented. By the end of 2021, the production at WINSTAR Taiwan headquarters had effectively reduced energy consumption by 60% per unit, saving up to 10.76 million kilowatt-hours annually, equivalent to preserving 9,949 trees (as shown in the figure). We continue to implement various energy-saving measures.
2. Emphasis is placed on environmental sustainability protection throughout the business operations, and a continuous policy of reducing harmful substances is enforced.
3. Efforts are made to avoid excessive product packaging, with packaging materials strictly selected for recyclability, adhering to eco-friendly green production standards.
4. Advocacy for daily energy and water conservation practices and ongoing saving actions, such as paperless electronic operations, turning off lights when not in use, setting air conditioning to a fixed temperature, and regulating water flow.
5. Active participation in actions to protect the natural environment to contribute to a clean and sustainable world. For example, we support events such as World Earth Day and community street-cleaning activities in the Central Taiwan Science Park.
▸ Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Water Consumption , and Waste Weight Over the Past Two Years

(A) Total Water Usage, Total Electricity Consumption, and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The statistics cover the Taiwan headquarters of the WINSTAR Group.
* According to the announcement by the Taiwan Water Corporation, the carbon emission factor per unit of water usage is used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions.
* According to the announcement by the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, the carbon emission factor per unit of electricity is used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions.

We are committed to giving back to society by addressing social issues, supporting disadvantaged groups and children through practical actions, and actively participating in public welfare initiatives to uphold our corporate social responsibility.

▸ Compensation System and Employee Benefits
WINSTAR adjusts employee compensation based on annual business performance. If the company generates profits, bonuses are allocated to employees and directors, ensuring that employee bonuses constitute no less than 1% of the profits. However, if there are accumulated losses, we reserve funds to cover them. The compensation structure, retirement system, and welfare measures are as follows:
(A) Comprehensive Salary and Leave System
  1. A fixed and reasonable 12-month salary.
  2. Performance bonuses based on business performance and individual achievements.
  3. Holiday bonuses for Labor Day, the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
  4. Subsidies for maternity, illness, hospitalization, weddings, and funerals.
  5. Leave policies compliant with the Labor Standards Act.

(B) Diverse Welfare Measures
  1. Shift (meal) allowances and group insurance.
  2. Employee cafeteria, parking spaces, and nursing rooms.
  3. Education and training programs, as well as health checkups for employees.
  4. Organized employee trips and monthly birthday celebrations.
  5. A well-stocked library for employees to borrow books.
  6. Year-end parties with prize draws, club activities, and various employee events.
  7. Allocation of employee welfare funds and the establishment of a welfare committee.

(C) Additional Benefits for Expatriates
  1. Allowances for expatriation and Lunar New Year factory duties.
  2. Quarterly home visits for work reporting or family leave.
  3. Free annual return tickets for expatriates and their accompanying family members.
  4. Family visit subsidies for dependents in Taiwan.
  5. Travel subsidies for employees and their families after more than one year of expatriation.
  6. Lunch provisions and meal subsidies.
  7. Accommodation or housing rental subsidies.
  8. Education subsidies for employees' children.
  9. Transportation services for employees’children to and from school.
  10. Accidental insurance coverage.

▸ Retirement System and Implementation

To regulate employee retirement management and ensure their post-retirement well-being, the company adheres to the retirement measures mandated by local governments for employees at WINSTAR Taiwan headquarters and subsidiaries:

  1. WINSTAR Taiwan Headquarters: The retirement fund complies with the Labor Pension Act, a government-managed defined contribution plan. The company contributes 6% of employees’monthly salaries to their individual accounts at the Bureau of Labor Insurance.
  2. Chinese Subsidiaries: Employees participate in a social insurance program managed by local government agencies. This program is a defined contribution plan, with pension insurance fees paid to a government-managed social insurance scheme.

 

▸ Occupational Safety and Employee Health
We provide a safe working environment to ensure the protection of employees' lives and health. Relevant policies, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Code of Practice and Workplace Safety Procedures, are developed, implemented, and supervised through coordination and communication between the Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) unit and various departments. These policies address employee safety and workplace conditions comprehensively. Key measures include:

  1. Compliance with Regulations: Adhering to occupational safety, disaster prevention, and environmental protection regulations to ensure workplace safety and prevent environmental pollution.
  2. Regular Training and Awareness Programs: Conducting training and awareness campaigns on workplace safety, traffic, equipment, and hazardous substances to enhance employees' safety awareness. All employees and external personnel working on company premises must comply with safety regulations.
  3. Routine Work Environment Monitoring: Biannual monitoring ensures the work environment is free from health hazards or unsafe conditions, with preventive measures implemented as necessary.
  4. Risk Assessment: Conducting regular 6S inspections to identify and address potential safety risks. Emergency response plans and teams are established with clearly defined roles and procedures.
  5. Employee Health Checks: Providing regular health and specialized medical examinations to monitor employees' health and address specific risks.
  6. Fire Drills: Biannual fire safety training and evacuation drills enhance employees' emergency preparedness.
  7. Occupational Safety Committee: Meeting quarterly to plan, assess, and recommend actions on occupational safety measures.

 

■ Diversity and Gender Equality


Talent is the cornerstone of sustainable business operations, and therefore, our company is committed to creating a diverse, equal, and inclusive work environment. This enables employees to demonstrate their professionalism in an open, inclusive, and diverse workplace, stimulating greater creativity among employees. We ensure that employees are not discriminated against or treated unfairly based on race, gender, religion, age, or any other condition protected by applicable laws, thus enhancing corporate competitiveness and achieving sustainable business goals.

WINSTAR implementation of diversity and gender equality is as follows:

  1. Recruitment of diverse talents and implementation of workplace equality: Adhering to the principle of hiring based on merit, we recruit outstanding talent from various fields, placing importance on a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Our employees come from different nationalities, ages, genders, or have physical disabilities. We provide comprehensive education and training as well as interactive care. In 2024, our company hired 1 employee with a physical or mental disability, and the implementation of diversity is as shown in the table below.

■ Human Rights Policy


Our company is committed to sustainable development while actively fulfilling corporate social responsibilities and contributing to the national economy. We strictly adhere to regulations protecting the fundamental human rights of workers, referencing international standards, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenants on Human Rights, the United Nations Global Compact, and the International Labour Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Key measures include:
  1. Respecting International Labor Rights: Upholding rights such as freedom of association, collective bargaining, care for disadvantaged groups, prohibition of child labor, elimination of forced labor, and eradication of employment discrimination. Our policies ensure equality and fairness in all aspects of employment.
  2. Assessing Human Rights Impacts: Evaluating the impact of operational activities and internal management on human rights, with procedures established to address identified issues.
  3. Effective Grievance Mechanism: Providing a fair and transparent grievance system to address labor rights violations, ensuring accessible and effective complaint processes.
  4. Transparency in Human Rights Violations: Disclosing handling processes for any human rights infringements to relevant stakeholders.
  5. Periodic Policy Review: Regularly reviewing and improving the effectiveness of human rights policies.

Since establishment, we has consistently implemented and reviewed its human rights policies alongside business expansion. To date, there have been no reported violations or controversies regarding employee rights.
